Egyptian Mill

Location:

Bolton

Extensive refurbishment of an old cotton mill, originally built in 1861. The mill stopped trading as a cotton mill in 1961 and is now used as a self-storage unit

We provided fully boarded external access scaffold to the five storey mill and tower, built in 2.00m high lift(s). Refurbishment works included re-pointing the existing external brickwork, re-roofing barrow vault roofing and providing adapted access to install new signage to the high parapet level. The external scaffold reached five storeys in height and fifteen no. lift(s).

The old mill had a number of low-level extensions built after its original construction. Therefore, we had to design external access scaffold solutions which provided access to the above-extended building. The design team provided a series of solutions, which included securing cantilevered (gallows) brackets to the existing building and envelope using band and plate fitting.
