A six storey timber frame student accommodation project to house UCLAN students. Situated in the heart of the city centre only a stone's throw from the main university campus, the development consisted of 226 en-suite rooms and 20 studios.

Built on the former site of the Jubilee Trading Estate, the fully boarded timber frame tube and fitting external access scaffold were built to follow a very challenging footprint. The two blocks and a communal building included a series of the part hexagonal shaped entrance, which required constructing a series of individual towers, in line with the entrance profile. In addition to this, the communal building was bullet shaped into a point bullnose which required the part of the external access scaffold to be built free-standing.

Built initially to service the timber frame sub-contractor then subsequently building envelope trade(s) including external brickworks, curtain walling and timber boarding, the customer wanted a system that enabled the omission of ledger bracing within the lifts and also a quick solution for the introduction of additional inside boards after removal of the initial hop up brackets for the timber frame. This was achieved using Enigma’s transom units which are a higher specification than those used by most of our competitors, and also allow the omission of ledger bracing; as well as the use of telescopic transom that can be extended in seconds, to allow fitting of inside boards.
