Our aim is to ensure that engagement with Enigma results in a positive experience for clients, employees and other stakeholders alike, by offering a professional, friendly and value-adding approach.

This aim is supported by our four cornerstone values of Insight, Innovation, Investment and Integrity.

As Industrial Services providers and Access specialists we have been servicing UK industries since 1935, across industrial, construction, housing, infrastructure, energy & power, agrochemical and food & beverage sectors. Over time our service offering has increased to support the needs of clients. We embed an ethical approach, high standards and excellent safety record, all of which go some way to explaining our loyal client base and reputation as a trusted service provider.

We provide UK coverage across a range of diverse environments and our services can be delivered individually or as multi-disciplinary activities; we frequently quote across several sites. Staff

Enigma’s Leadership Team is responsible for the companies strategic direction, as well as supporting all corporate activities . The team works closely to ensure that Enigma meets the demands of its customers and other external stakeholders, whilst providing a safe environment and a positive, innovative, and exciting working culture for our employees.

Scott

Scott Hardie
Managing Director

Scott Hardie is Managing Director of Enigma Industrial Services having transferred as Managing Director from Interserve in 2018. Scott joined the business in 2012, initially to head-up the Access business, Scott assumed responsibility for the Industrial Hard Services, Environmental and Power Businesses in 2015. Scott has extensive experience in a broad range of service businesses.
Prior to Enigma / Interserve Scott was employed as Operations Director at Harsco’s SGB business (now Lyndon SGB) having previously held the roles of General Manager, National Taskforce Manager and Regional Manager across a 17 year period at SGB.
Scott entered the workplace in 1984 at the age of sixteen as a trainee scaffolder and by the age of twenty one, had progressed to Supervisor, going on to develop through experience gained in the roles of Contracts Manager, Offshore Surveyor and Branch Manager.

Alan

Alan Scott
Procurement and Asset Management Director

Alan commenced his professional career within the shipbuilding industry as a specialist Copper/Metalsmith. 
Entering into the Scaffolding Industry through the manufacturing route, he now has over 30 years’ experience working within the scaffolding and related sectors. He holds Board level responsibility for Procurement, Company Assets, Property and the Enigma vehicle fleet. Procurement activities cover both National and International considerations.
Prior to joining Enigma, Alan worked for RMDKwikform as the UK General Manager with operational responsibility for all UK locations. Previously working in various roles for SGB, including Regional Operational roles and managing the refurbishment and bespoke manufacture centres within the UK. He has also worked in the Middle East as a freelance Consultant.
Alan sits on the NASC hire, sales and manufacturing committee and holds the following :

  • NEBOSH International General Management Certificate
  • IOSH Directing Safely
  • Internal Auditor (IRCA)
David

David Cairns
Commercial Director
Access Services

David is the Commercial Director of Enigma’s Access Services business, and is responsible for all commercial matters within the Access business across the UK. Since joining the business in 1996, when it was known as Kwikform UK Ltd, he has served in a number of positions including Estimating & Business Development, General Management and Commercial Management.
Starting his career in the Construction Industry in 1986 as a Quantity Surveyor with Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners, David moved into the access market in 1990 as Surveyor / Estimator then Contracts Manager with Palmers Scaffolding Ltd.
David holds an ONC in Building Technology and HND in Quantity Surveying from Edinburgh’s Napier University.

Paul

Paul Smith
Operations Director
Access South

Paul has overall responsibility for all aspects of the Access business in England, devising branch strategies to achieve financial targets agreed at board level. Paul is responsible for the development of personnel and processes within the framework of the integrated management system to provide, maintain and improve performance of the business.
Paul has been Involved in the Access industry since 1982 having progressed through the ranks: scaffolder to supervisor to manager before landing in his current role as Ops Director. Paul joined the business in 2010 as General Manager of the Preston branch before taking the Ops Director role in 2014.
Paul holds a HND in Business Studies & a Certificate in Management Studies.

Ian

Ian McDougall
Finance Director
BA, FCA, MBA

Ian joined Enigma in 2016 and is responsible for all financial matters pertaining to Enigma IS. He brings a wealth of financial and commercial experience from a variety of related sectors and industries including Manufacturing, Engineering, Facilities Management and Outsourcing.
Ian has previously held senior finance roles with the Weir Group in the UK & the Middle East, and Morrison Facilities Services in the UK.
Ian qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1999 having trained with KPMG in the UK and holds an MBA from Cranfield School of Management (2005).

Roy Rogers
QSHE Director
CFIOSH, CQP, MCQI, MIAM

Roy has Overall responsible for establishing and providing operational QSHE strategy, policy, guidance and resources as needed to meet the priorities of Enigma Industrial Services targets, objectives, programs and service delivery.
Roy has over 38 years’ experience, 25 of which were spent in the automotive / plant engineering management, health & safety and quality assurance, including Total Quality Management. He spent 15 years in the Industrial, Construction and Rail sectors.
Roy is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (CFIOSH), Chartered Member of the Quality Institute (MCQI) and Member of Advanced Motorists (MIAM) and has been an active speaker at the Safety Specialist Groups including the British Safety Council and various building companies attended by the Health & Safety Executive. Roy is an active member of the National Access & Scaffolding Confederation.

Geoff

Geoff Hughes
Human Resources Director
CIPD IOSH

Reporting to the Business Managing Director (Scott Hardie) Geoff is responsible for ensuring that all the people needs of the business are met and achieved. To ensure that the Enigma values and culture are reflected in all HR activities and solutions and that HR participate in the strategic growth of the Business as a whole.
A very wide ranging experience of HR covering both UK and overseas including a high degree of experience of; Strategic Management, Cost Appreciation and control, Commercial arrangements of the Division, Industrial Relations, Project Management. Geoff is also known for detailed knowledge of employment law and extensive experience of TUPE. In the past years he has worked closely with many blue chip organisations such as; Magnox, British Energy, Bp, Shell, Texaco, BAA and BAE systems. Geoff left education and started his career in the Printing Industry with the Hunterprint Group Plc as part of the management leadership program.
Geoff Joined Enigma Industrial from the Nuttall group in 2003 as Personnel Manager looking after much of their UK operations for the then Major Projects Division, [now Power, Energy & process] specialising in mass recruitment for large turnaround projects.
In recognition of his contribution toward the engineering and construction Industry and his knowledge of the framework agreements Geoff holds a place as a non exec director of the management board of the (NJC). National Joint Council for the Engineering Construction Industry and the (ECIA) Engineering Construction Industry Association. Geoff also represents the association as either chair or lay member of the NJC’s Dispute & Adjudication Panel for the Industry, working alongside national officials from the main trade unions Unite and the GMB. Latterly Geoff has also been asked to join the JIB’s Labour relations Committee as one of the representatives of the major employers in the sector, Geoff has been working on the Modernisation of the agreements known as; JIB, BE&S, SELECT & ECA.

Darren

Darren Williams
Operations Director
Hard Services

Darren transferred to Enigma Industrial Services Limited as Operations Director for the Hard Services business.  He joined in 1984 as a trainee apprentice, when it was GKN Mills and was one of the original three people who started GKN Industrial Services. He continued on with the company through various names changes and its mergers and acquisitions, during this time Darren held responsibility for five statutory owned businesses which included an Environmental, Elevator Supplier, European Wide Inspections company, Interserve Technical. Services and a National Window Cleaning business, gaining his qualifications and progressing through various management and senior management roles to Operations Director.
Darren took a break from the industrial markets after over twenty years and went to work with Eon as the head of the property services in the UK, this role would lead him into the delivery of Eon’s Domestic Gas Compliance, Industrial Electrical installations and various Green technologies services that supported the companies Eco Obligations. After five years a move to Capita Property and Infrastructure saw Darren as Head of the Oxford County Council contract and after a short time he was then invited to join the Operations Board for the business.
Darren returned back to the Interserve Industrial business in 2015 as Operations Director where he now holds responsibilities for the Hard Services delivery in the UK.

Gary

Gary Stephens
Senior Commercial Mgr
Hard Services

Gary transferred to Enigma Industrial Services Limited as Senior Commercial Manager from Interserve, having joined Interserve Industrial Services Limited in March 2015. Gary was responsible for Commercial matters relating to our Hard Services Industrial business units.
Prior to Enigma / Interserve Gary was Commercial Director for a Tier 1 Contractor to Thames Water for 8 years, previous to this Gary was Commercial Manager for Enterprise (Amey) responsible for the Water Utility Division.

Thomas

Thomas Adams
Operations Director
Access North

Tom has overall responsibility for the strategic delivery of the Access business in Scotland, initiating strategies at branch level to support financial & operating targets as disseminated by the Enigma Board combined with the implementation & compliance of EMS policies.  Tam’s experience and skill-set ensures both the maintenance of his current client portfolio as well as the promotion of new business.
Since leaving H.M. Forces in 1984 where Tam served as a Royal Military Policeman, Tam has worked exclusively in the Access sector, joining the business in 1989 (under the name GKN Kwikform Ltd) as a Contracts Supervisor.  He has been promoted to Contracts Manager, Branch Manager and General before taking his current role as Operations Director, Access North in 2003.

Various Health & Safety certifications- incl IOSH Directing Safely.

Darren

Darren Greenall
Commercial & Business Technology Director

Darren as Commercial & Business Technology Director is responsible for all Commercial matters, along with the Digital aspects of the business IT, Design & Marketing. Darren transferred as Commercial Director from Interserve in 2018, where he was responsible for the commercial activities of the Access, Industrial Hard Services, Environmental and Power Businesses.
Prior to Enigma / Interserve Darren has held other senior roles, notably with McAlpine, Morrison Utility Services & Morgan Est.

Our systems, standards and training have led to over 120 RoSPA awards over the last several years.

The QSHE Policy is endorsed by the Enigma Board and regularly reviewed. The structured policy outlines our processes to ensure delivery of a successful health and safety culture. Extending out from our policy is our Enigma Integrated Management System (EIMS for short).

    Our Management System is certificated by:
  • British Standards Institute to ISO9001:2015 Quality Management Systems;
  • ISO14001:2015 Environmental Management System;
  • ISO45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Management System.
    The Enigma Integrated Management System objectives include:
  • Prevention of injury and ill health of interested parties who may be affected by our activities;
  • Contributing to the effective protection of the environment and promoting the use of sustainable resources;
  • The development and provision of products which are safe and fit for purpose;
  • Provision of appropriate resources to ensure that adequate information, training and supervision are provided to employees, contractors and interested parties relating to quality, health, safety, and environmental issues;
  • Ensuring the effective management of risks during the design, construction, operation and maintenance phases;
  • Reviewed regularly to ensure that our IMS meets quality, health, safety and environmental standards and facilitates the setting of relevant realistic objectives and targets; as well as the monitoring of performance;
  • Developing a structured approach to identifying and targeting improvements.

Performance is measured proactively through audit, inspection, recording and analysing positive interventions, near misses, minutes of management meetings and reactively examining data collected after incidents, sickness records and other / previous investigation reports.
Management Reviews are carried out timeously to ensure our policy and IMS are effective, efficient and continue to meet legal requirements, corporate objectives and changing circumstances.

Our aim is to continually improve; benchmarking against the British Safety Council and industry norms.
